Burning Threads
Caroline Lam
Exile, women’s resilience, colonialism and spirituality are the themes that run through Burning Threads, the latest work by dancer and choreographer Caroline Lam. These themes resonate deeply with her family’s own life story.
In this new production, she explores colonial Christianity and Vietnamese spiritual traditions. The piece examines what is passed down from one generation to the next and the tensions inherent in the entire history of migration: preserving one’s heritage whilst seeking to integrate.
On stage, three dancers recount an epic journey spanning history to reflect a deeply personal story. They also examine the role of women in these processes of survival, transmission and reconstruction. Mesmerising and… searing.
