Le Pèlerinage de la rose
L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève
Once upon a time, there was a rose who secretly dreamt of becoming a young girl. Thanks to the Queen of the Elves, her wish was granted, and on her journey she met a gravedigger, some millers and Max.
It was this tale, which scrupulously adheres to all the conventions of this literary genre, that the composer Robert Schumann set his sights on shortly before his death in 1856. He turned it into an oratorio.
Performed in its orchestral version by a mixed choir, a children’s choir and a few soloists, this story is brought to life through live illustrations by Emma Bertin, who thus highlights the light and nature captured in the libretto.
How can one not be swept away by the poetry of the moment, by its gentleness, by the journey on which Le Pèlerinage de la rose takes us?
The Geneva Chamber Orchestra is a resident organisation at Concorde.
Emma Bertin
Born in France, Emma Bertin is an artist and illustrator who graduated (DNSEP) from the Aix-en-Provence School of Art (2018).
She began working for the Centre Pompidou in April 2018 as an illustrator for MOOCs on the history of modern and contemporary art.
