Olga de Soto
Olga de Soto is a Spanish choreographer, dance researcher and multidisciplinary artist based in Brussels, whose work combines dance, performance, visual arts and installation to explore memory, traces and transmission.
She began her career as a choreographer in 1992, exploring various formats through numerous works, some of which were created in dialogue with pieces by contemporary composers.
Since the early 2000s, her works – partly rooted in the history of dance – have explored the performers’ bodily memory and the audience’s receptive memory, focusing on voices that have long been excluded from artistic discourse. Combining the language of choreography with those of documentary, performance, the visual arts and installation, his works play with the fluid boundaries between these disciplines and draw on the performative nature of the archive and oral history to reveal a hybrid yet rigorous language in which artistic experience, anthropology, sociology and historiography engage in dialogue. Her work has been presented in some twenty countries, ranging from theatres to museums.
