Two plays that explore the fundamental role of parents in a divided and polarising world: how can we protect children, support them and instil values in them, whilst allowing them to find their own way?

The choreographer Edouard Hue has chosen the format of a diptych to give shape to his reflections on family and parenthood, in which he sets ten dancers in motion and creates radically different worlds.

For whilst Avant la nuit is rooted in reality through the bedtime routine, L’Oiseau de feu plunges us into an abstract and symbolic world, built around illusion.

The music – a contemporary composition by Jonathan Soucasse for the first piece and Igor Stravinsky’s work from the last century for the second – reinforces the contrast between the two pieces and lends each a unique flavour.

Edouard Hue is in residence at Concorde this season.
