Black Lights
Mathilde Monnier
Originally a series by Valérie Urrea and Nathalie Masduraud, broadcast in 2021 on Arte. A political and activist project, H24 comprises 24 episodes written by 24 women, each telling a true story that highlights the everyday violence suffered by women.
Choreographer Mathilde Monnier takes nine of these texts and brings them to life in a different way, through movement and the physical presence of the body. On stage, dance and the body take over from words: the performers transform violence into power, shock into momentum and the intimate into a collective experience, with realism, emotion, anger and sometimes even a touch of humour.
Somewhere between stand-up comedy and poetic expression, Black Lights presents these stories in a fresh light and turns the stage into a space where words circulate, are shared and set free. You leave feeling shaken, outraged, and determined not to look away any longer but to stand up and fight.
