Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève
The Grand Théâtre Ballet comprises twenty-one dancers. Each season, it presents several original choreographic programmes in Geneva and performs on stages around the world, touring Europe and the Americas, as well as China, South Africa and Australia.
Founded in 1962, the company turned resolutely towards the contemporary repertoire at the dawn of the 21st century under the artistic direction of Philippe Cohen (2003–2022), who placed new works at the heart of the programme and invited numerous international choreographers to Geneva, such as Gilles Jobin, Andonis Foniadakis, Benjamin Millepied, Emanuel Gat and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui to Geneva.
Appointed to lead the company in 2022, he has revitalised this momentum with his own creations, adding works by Damien Jalet, an associate artist, to the Grand Théâtre’s repertoire, and inviting choreographers such as Aszure Barton and Rachid Ouramdane to collaborate.
