Forces - BUSK / Strong
Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève / Aszure Barton / Sharon Eyal
BUSK and Strong form a diptych whose beating heart is the celebration of the performers’ power and prowess.
In the first piece, street performers cross paths time and again: they are funny, fragile, strange and virtuosic, and make no secret of their quest for attention. In the second, a group of silhouettes is animated by movements that repeat, echo and synchronise to electronic music with a relentless and mesmerising rhythm.
Choreographed by Aszure Barton and Sharon Eyal, leading figures in contemporary dance, the two pieces successively explore the tension between the collective’s momentum and the assertion of the individualities that make it up. For whilst in BUSK each performer takes turns seeking to stand out, in Strong it is the unity of the group that takes centre stage.
One is left speechless, fascinated or mesmerised, depending on the moment, by the evolving soundtrack, the solos or the group’s extreme synchronisation. A tour de force!
