Tiago Rodrigues

Theatre

Ever since he began his career as a playwright at the age of 20, Tiago Rodrigues has always viewed the theatre as a gathering of people: a place where people meet, just as they would in a café, to exchange ideas and spend time together.

Whilst still a student, he first came across the tg STAN theatre company in 1997, which confirmed his preference for collaborative, non-hierarchical working methods. The freedom he experienced with this Belgian collective would have a lasting influence on his future work.

In 2003, he co-founded the Mundo Perfeito theatre company with Magda Bizarro, with whom he has created and staged nearly 30 productions in over 20 countries.

He has collaborated with a large number of Portuguese and international artists, as well as with choreographers and dancers. He teaches theatre at several schools across Europe.

Alongside his theatre work, he writes screenplays for films and television series, as well as articles, poetry and essays.

In 2018, he was awarded the 15th Prix Europe Nouvelles Réalités Théâtrales. That same year, he was honoured by the French Republic with the title of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Since 2021, he has been the director of the Avignon Festival.
